Nissan confirms Duster based SUV by the end of 2013 in India !!

Colin Dodge, executive VP, Nissan India made an official announcement about the re-badged Renault Duster by the end of this year under the Nissan banner. He qouted "We have got quite a differentiated car & the differences are far more significant than on the V-Platform (Micra/Pulse ; Sunny/Scala) . The hood & the fenders have the differences & the bumpers are different too. But it's more than just a bumper & grille change for sure "

Renault-Nissan alliance shares the same platforms for their respective products. This is not new for us as we have already witnessed Micra going the Pulse way & Sunny transforming into Renault badged Scala.
Generally Nissan launches their cars first & then Renault follows it to produce its own version but this time the story has been reversed.
Renault's Duster was undoubtedly the biggest blockbuster of the last year which came as a revolution to the Indian SUV market. The so called first Compact SUV of India bagged up a lot of sales & admiration from Indian audience. These are the factors that Renault was a bit reluctant to share the platform of its biggest selling product.

This Nissan's version of Duster will be powered by the same tried-tested locally produced 1.5 ltrs. k9k
diesel mill. It may also offer a 4WD variant as well as an automatic transmission option & will be priced higher than it's sibling.

2012 Top 10 Biggest Sellers !!

Pricng may be a key Ingredient of marketing but simply being the cheapest may not always guarantee success. Tata's Nano- the least expensive car in the world, finished last in this Top 10 ranking of passenger vehicle sold in year 2012.The Nano's case is not an isolated one. Models like Ford's Figo & GM Spark-Beat, Hyundai's Eon and Tata's Indica are sold fewer units than more expensive vehicles. The Figo & the Spark do not even figure in Top 10.

The top rank continues to be occupied by Maruti Suzuki's Alto, which sold 2.86 units, though the petrol only model saw volumes shrink by 8% year-on-year as demand shifted towards the Diesel cars. But while the Alto which is the second cheapest car in India at INR 2.32 Lakhs for the the entry level variant - managed to hold on the top position, other vehicles in the same price band did not fare so well. Hyundai's Eon did not fare so well. Hyundai's Eon, which has an ex.-showroom price of INR 2.77 Lakhs, finished 8th with sales of only 93,578 units. The Spark failed to make the cut.

The vehicles immediately following in the Alto in terms of sales are comparatively priced much higher. Maruti's Swift, with a starting price of INR 4.48 Lakhs came in second with sales of 1.86 Lakh units. The Swift infact improves from its 4th rank in 2011(1.27 Lakh units). The 3rd highest is the Dzire, the mid size version of the Swift with an entry of INR 4.92 Lakhs. Mahindra Bolero is another Surprise to this list. But the biggest surprise is the poor response to the Nano considering the kind of over the top marketing Tata did for it.

Top 10 Biggest Sellers of last year with their respective sales figures -

#1. Maruti Suzuki Alto - 2.87 Lakh units.

#2. Maruti Suzuki Swift - 1.87 Lakh units.

# 3. Maruti Suzuki Dzire - 1.54 Lakh units.

# 4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R - 1.35 Lakh units.

# 5. Mahindra Bolero - 1.13 Lakh units .

# 6. Hyundai i10 - 0.98 Lakh units.

# 7. Tata Indica - 0.94 Lakh units.

# 8. Hyundai Eon - 0.93 Lakh units.

# 9. Hyundai i20 - 0.85 Lakh units.

# 10. Tata Nano - 0.76 Lakh units.

Vespa Lx125 prices slashed, now @ INR 59,990 !!

Piaggio Vespa Lx 125 prices slashed by INR 8,323, will now cost INR 59,990(ex. showroom, Pune) only.

Italian manufacturer Piaggio launched its Vespa Lx125 in April 2012 as the first Indian premium Gearless Scooter with a heavy price tag of INR 68,990 on it & sold almost 25,000 units till date which are very small numbers in reference to India's rapidly growing gearless market. But now Piaggio is all set to capture a much larger market share with a competitive pricing tag over it.

After such an acute price cut, Vespa is still the most highly priced gearless scooter in the Indian market & presence of opponents like Honda Activa, it wouldn't be that much easy to lead this market. Lets see if this price cut realy boosts up some sales for Italian Giant ??
